Polymer Activation/Distribution
System
Polymers are long chained molecules that act like magnets. They attract
suspended particles (solids) thereby forming larger solids that more easily and
quickly dewater.
Before polymers can be used it must be activated and diluted. Activation is
the process of exposing the polymer to water, supplying sufficient energy to very
quickly disperse all the microscopic beads and strip the oil coating of them.
When the polymer is exposed to water it absorbs the water, unwinds and extends.
At this time it is ready for use. Polymers are normally diluted to concentration
of .01% to 1.0%.

Failure to add enough energy during activation
results in the formation of agglomerations also
called “fish eyes.” “Fish eyes”
are nearly impossible to disperse. Adding more
energy (mixing) after exposure to water (activation)
will only result in breaking the extended polymer
molecules resulting in higher polymer use or greater
polymer costs.
The ideal polymer activation/distribution systems
exposes the polymer to the largest amount of energy
for the shortest period of time. (Nonbladed systems)
systems that generate lower energy levels/(bladed
systems) require that the solution be exposed
to the energy levels for a longer period of time.
Lower energy systems (bladed systems) result in
the formation of “fisheyes” and require
longer exposure to energy breaking the activate
polymer chain.

The
Smart Polymer Activation/Distribution System
Systems activate the Polymer by accelerating the
polymer solution to a very high speed. This exposure
to light energy (speed) activated the polymer
instantly. The Smart Polymer Activation/Distribution
System exposes the polymer solution to such high
energy levels that the polymer is exposed only
once, for a fraction of a second, during activation.
